  • ObituaryText*: Romay Graff, 84, of Jeffers died Monday at St John's Lutheran Home in Springfield. Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 pm. Thursday at the Jeffers chapel of Anderson-Schmidt Funeral Home and at the church one hour prior to services. Funeral services are scheduled at 10am Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jeffers with Rev. Gerald Giese officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons Kelly Graff, Perry Graff, Corby Graff, Jim Simon, Ken Simon and Kevin Olson. Burial will be at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Sanborn. Romay Graff, son of Adolph and Alvina Graff, was born July 12, 1901, in Cottonwood County. He was educated in rural Red Rock Schools and lived in the area for most of his life. He married Edna Carow [sic] in Germantown Township on June 30, 1926. They farmed in Amboy Township until their retirement in 1965. They moved to a homesite north of Sanborn and remailed there until moving into Jeffers in 1979. Edna died in 1983. Romay was active in the Jeffers Senior Citizen club. Survivors include five children, Mrs. Myrle (Lorraine) Simon of Comfrey, Mrs. Melvin )Mavis) Simon of Comfrey, Darrel Graff of Sanborn, Mrs. Roland (Donna) Olson of Excelsior, Alan Graff of Parkersburg, Iowa; 20 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; six sisters and brothers, Esther Carow [sic] of Springfield, Gilbert Graff of Jeffers, Alvin Graff of Jeffers, Emily Essig of Hermahn, and Willard Graff of Sleepy Eye.3

Funeral services were held Friday at 1 p.m. from the Springfield Burial Association and at 1:30 p.m. from the Evangelical UB church. The Rev. H. Cook officiated.
    Burial was in the Red Rock cemetery in Germantown township. Elsie Karow was born October 21, 1899 to Henry and Emma Karow in Redwood County. She lived with her parents on a farm near Sanborn until they moved to Springfield to live several years ago. Miss Karow never married. After her father's death she lived with her mother at their home in Springfield. Miss Karow is sorvived by her mother, Mrs. Emma Karow, two sisters; Mrs. Herman Block of Springfield, and Mrs. Romey Graff of Sanborn; and three brothers: Harry Karow of Springfield, Ben Karow of Hoffman and Fred Karow of Jeffers.2

  • ObituaryText: Rites Sunday for Mrs. G. Bruess. Well known Sleepy Eye Lady passed away Thursday, rites Sunday. Funeral services were held at Zion Evangelical Church at 2 p.m. Sunday for Mrs. Gustav Bruess, well known resident of this community for over 66 years. Prior to the church service, brief services were held at the home. Last rites were in charge of Rev. N.V. Sack. Mrs. Bruess passed away Thursday evening at 9:45 of a chronic ailment with which she had been afflicted since last fall. She had been confined o her bed since undergoing an operation last October. Deceased, nee Augusta Prosch, was born at Fon du Lac, Wisconsin, November 4, 1868 and was past 69 years of age at the time of her death. When 2 1/2 ears old she came with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Christian Prosch, to Minnesota. The family lived on a farm four miles east of this city where the deceased resided until after her marriage February 7, 1888, to Mr. Bruess in this city. Mr. & Mrs. Bruess then located on a farm in Home township, tow an done half miles northeast of this city, now occupied by their son, Clement Bruess and family. Mr. Brus passed away may 1, 1936, and one daughter, Christina, also preceded her mother in death 22 years ago. The following children survive: Miss Cora Bruess, nurse in the new Ulm public schools; Mrs. Earl Page, Northfield; Frank, Elroy and Clement Bruess, Home township; William Bruess and Mrs. Fred Siering, St. Paul; Mrs. Edwin Lange, Sleepy Eye; Mrs. John Heymann, New Ulm and Miss Helen Bruess at home. There are 17 grandchildren and five brothers. The brothers are Charles and John Prosch, Cutler City, Oregon; Gustav Prosch, Sleepy Eye, and Henry and Albert Prosch of Nicollet. Mrs. Bruess was a member of the Eastern Star, Royal Neighbors of America and the Ladies Aid of the Evangelical Church. Burial was made in Home cemetery.3

  • ObituaryText: Emil Howe died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. S. H. Babcock, at Osseo, Minn., early Monday morning. July 19th, following a lingering illness. He was confined to his bed two weeks. Emil Hower was born in Dyck, Dries Dt. Krone, Westpreussen, Germany, February 12, 1869. He came to America in June 1885. He was married to Johanna Schulz in 1888 at Dodge Center after which he moved to Springfield, Minnesota, and lived there until 1900 when he moved with his family to Wabasso, living there thirty-one years after which he lived at Redwood Falls for three years, and the last four years lived in Osseo. Mrs. Howe died at Wabasso April 7, 1905. Mr. Howe is survived by 2 sons and 5 daughters: Arthur of Lamberton, Frida Babcock of Osseo, Harry of dodge Center, Elsie of Redwood Falls, Ella Kersten of Springfield, Erna Meder of Osseo and Margaret Asche of Clara City. There are 15 grandchildren. Besides his immediate family he is survived by 3 brothers, Paul and Carl Howe of Dodge Center, and Julius of Grandview, Wisconsin. After private services at Osseo Wednesday morning, the body will be taken to Springfield to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Kersten where services will be conducted by Reverend Ricke of Springfield. Zenith Lodge No. 200 A.F & A.M. will have charge of services at Riverside Cemetery where internment will be made.4
