  • ObituaryText*: Another pioneer resident of this community was called by Death last Friday afternoon when Mrs.
Wilhelmine Pieske passed away at her home in Jeffers at four o'clock after an illness of one week.

Wilhelmine Conrad, daughter of Michael and Justine Conrad, was born at Buchwerder, Posen,
Germany on February 29, 1852 and died at the age of 84 years, 7 months and 10 days.

She was baptized in early infancy and after due instruction was confirmed in the Lutheran church
    at Czarnickau, Posen, Germany.

She came to this country in June 1872 with Rochester, Minnesota as her destination, where she
    lived until November 1872.

She was united in marriage with Carl (Charles) Pieske November 15th, 1872. This union was
blessed with sixteen children of whom three preceded her in death.

In November 1872, Mr. and Mrs. Pieske came to Cottonwood County to take up a homestead in
Germantown Township, which is known today as the Pieske farm. There they experienced the
hardships of pioneer life until the death of Mr. Pieske January, 1896.

From 1896 to 1911 Mrs. Pieske managed the farm with her children, and that quite successfully, as
she cleared it of all encumbrances and purchased a home at Lamberton where she resided until
1915. At that time she traded her Lamberton house for the one at Jeffers where she lived up to the
    time of her death.

faithful mother of an excellent Christian character. She was also a very faithful church member
    always eager to attend services.

She enjoyed as good health as could be expected at such an age. Her last illness lasted about one
week starting with a cold, which developed into pneumonia, and combined with old age it proved to
be the messenger calling her to the home for which she prepared herself during her long earthly
    life.

She leaves to mourn her death, five daughters: Marie, Ida(should beEdith) Schmidt, Lena Muller, Alvina Hofman
and Lora Polsin; eight sons: Albert, Gustav, Otto, Willie, Edward, Louie, Henry, and Herman; Two
sisters; Mrs. Pauline Quade and Mrs. G. Weimkauf (should be Weinkauf); two brothers; Martin Conrad and Samuel
Conrad; forty-two grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and a number of other relatives.4
