  • Note*: Even with the raising of this large family, they had the time to minister to their needy
neighbors, like during the diphtheria epidemic. Also, Grandma was midwife in the birth of many neighbor’s children. They were
not only professing Christians but also practicing. When partaking of communion, Grandma would be so very touched that she
was unable to speak to anyone afterwards. On her deathbed, May 30, 1928 she called for each of her children and all the
grandchildren who were available. She knew that she would soon be with the Lord forever, and expressed her great desire that all
her loved ones join her there some day. While living at Sleepy Eye, their Lutheran pastor preached that only Lutherans could gain
heaven. This, Grandpa couldn’t believe so they left that denomination for the Methodist Church during a revival meeting. GOD
    BLESS THEIR MEMORY. (Vernice Tryggeseth.)2
  • Num Child*: Frederick M Redetzke had My grandparents gave birth to thirteen children, eleven boys and two girls. Three of the boys died in infancy, but the
remaining ten children lived to adulthood. (Vernice Tryggeseth) children.2
  • Note: "Next in line in the Ludwig Kissner family was Wilhelmina. She was a very attractive girl as I remember her. She had quite a few
callers but none seemed to be quite satisfactory. She said if Fred Redetzke would come then it might be. It happened that Fred did
call and they joined hands for life. Uncle Fred bought a farm four miles northeast of Sleepy Eye and there is where they lived for
many years. They raised a family of eight boys and two girls and were a very fine family, physically and as to character. Our folks
would visit the Redetzke family once or twice a year as I was growing up. It was always something special when we would go to
Uncle Redetzke’s, eight miles from our farm. It must be thirty years since the Redetzke’s sold their nice farm at Sleepy Eye and
moved to Echo, Minnesota where they bought a much larger farm and lived their the rest of their days. They are now at rest in the
    cemetery at Echo, Minnesota."3
