  • ObituaryText: George P. Swartz one of Milton's oldest and most highly esteemed citizens died at his home on Walnut Street, Sunday morning of paralysis in the 78th year of his age. His funeral will take place from his late home on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment will be made in the family lot in Harmony cemetary. George P. Swartz was born at New Berlin, Union Co in 1830. He was the last surviving member of a family of 12 children. He spent his earlier years at McEwensville and came to Milton when a young man and learned the carpenter trade, which occupation he followed during the active years of his life. In 1854-- 54 years ago- he was married to Eliza Truckenmiller, who survives him together with 5 of the ten children which blessed the union--George E of Chicato, Samuel T, W Grant and Harry of Norfold, and Attorney Arthur L. Swartz of this place. The golden wedding anniversary of Mr & Mrs Swartz was celebrated quietly in 1904. During the war of the rebellion, Mr. Swartz served his country as a member of Company E 74th regiment, Penna. Volunteers. He was a member of Henry Wilson Post GAR. He was a life long member of St. John's Reformed Church and his pastor, Rev. Henry Reagle will officiate at his funeral, which will be conducted by his comrades of the GAR and the Sons of Veterans.1
