    Larry Walter Pooch was born November 22, 1912, in Lamberton, Minnesota, the son of William and Amelia (Pankonin) Pooch. Larry was raised in Lamberton and spent most of his life there, farming south of Lamberton. On October 19, 1937, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Halter.

    Larry was a member of the Lamberton Church of Christ. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved nature and the outdoors.

    Survivors include wife, Evelyn of Minneapolis; two sons, Steven and wife, Mary Pooch of Marine, MN, and Allan and wife, Jean Pooch of Roseville, MN; two daughters, Sandra and husband, Charlie Goerish of Tracy, MN, and Susan and husband, Kenneth Baumann of Mahnomen, MN; seven grandchildren, Jennifer (Chuck) McNamee, Gina (Grant) Gunderson, Katy (David) Boehm, Ben (Trisha) Baumann, Andrew Pooch, Abigail Pooch, and Tim (Teresa) Goerish; five great-grandchildren; one brother, George and wife, Shirley Pooch of Lamberton; and two sisters, Jean and husband, Floyd Halter of Redwood Falls, and Gladys Leopold of Sanborn.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Leslie and Delmar Pooch, and two sisters, Alice Krinke and Mabel Hoehne.

    Alice Ellen Pooch was born September 15, 1914 in Cottonwood County, Minnesota, the daughter of William and Amelia (Pankonin) Pooch. She grew up and attended school in Lamberton. On April 15, 1937, she married Donald Krinke at the Church of Christ in Lamberton. In 1941, they moved to Mankato.

    Alice was a homemaker and loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed wintering in Brownsville, Texas, gardening and sewing. She was a member of Eagle Lake Church of Christ, Eagle Lake.

    Alice is survived by her husband, Donald; two daughters, Janice Taber of Mankato, and Marjorie and husband, William Wadle of Albuquerque, NM; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Larry and wife, Evelyn Pooch, and George and wife, Shirley Pooch, both of Lamberton; three sisters, Mabel and husband, Milton Hoehne of Lamberton, Gladys Leopold of Sanborn, and Jean and husband, Floyd Halter of Redwood Falls.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one son-in-law, Duane Taber.

    Gladys Bertha Leopold was born October 15, 1917, in Redwood County, Minnesota, the daughter of William and Amelia (Pankonin) Pooch. She attended School District #28 in Cottonwood County. She was united in marriage to Lloyd Leopold on September 11, 1935, in Lamberton. The couple farmed in rural Sanborn for three years, in rural Avoca for three years, and for 37 years near Bingham Lake. They then retired and moved to Sanborn in 1980.

    Gladys was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed playing cards, sewing, cooking, baking, and gardening. Gladys especially enjoyed visiting with people, working, and watching the Minnesota Twins. She will always be remembered for making the best turkey and pies!

    She is survived by four daughters, Shirley Blackstad of St. James, Marian and husband, Carol Rieffer of Sioux Falls, Ruth and husband, Floyd Knakmuhs of Westbrook, and Norma and husband, Jerry Burns of Mankato; 15 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one brother, George Pooch of Lamberton; one sister, Jean Halter of Redwood Falls; and two sister-in-laws.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lloyd in 1982, two brothers, Leslie and Delmar Pooch, and two sisters, Alice Krinke and Mabel Hoehne.

  • ObituaryText: Funeral services for Leslie Pooch, 35, were conducted on Tuesday, February 15, 1955, at 10:00 a.m., in the Peterson Funeral Home, Willmar, followed by a service at 2:30 p.m., at the Sharon Lutheran Church in Lamberton. Rev. C. R. Osbeck officiated at the Willmar service. Mrs. Wallace Erickson and Mrs. Sigurd Pederson sang a duet, "Blessed Jesus Take My Hand". Willard Engeswick sang, "Beyond the Sunset" and "My God and I". Rev. Homer Dobson, pastor of the Church of Christ in Lamberton, officiated at the afternoon service. Mrs. William Lawer and Mrs. Leroy Schmidt sang, "Sometime You Will Understand". Mrs. Donald Anderson was the pianist. Pallbearers were Lyle Swanson, Luverne Pankonin, Kenneth Pankonin, George Pankonin, Raymond Pooch and Ervin Missling. Burial was in Lamberton Cemetery, Lamberton, Minnesota.

    Mr. Pooch died in the Paynesville Hospital from injuries sustained in a car-truck accident on Highway 23 about 10:00 p.m., between Paynesville and Roscoe. His car crashed into the rear of a semi-trailer. The driver of the truck from Metcalf Transfer Company of St. Paul, stated he had developed motor trouble and had pulled to the side of the road and set out flares, when the Pooch car smashed into the rear of the semi-truck.

    Leslie Earl Pooch was born November 6, 1919 in Cottonwood County, Minnesota, the son of William and Amelia (Pankonin) Pooch. On June 1, 1941, he was united in marriage to Mildred Halter. He became a member of the Church of Christ in Lamberton in 1938.

    For the past two and a half years the family resided in Willmar, where Mr. Pooch was a car salesman. He was employed for two years with the Minar Rodelius Company and at the time of his death, was working for the Schaffer Auto Sales.

    Surviving are his wife, Mildred; three sons, Robert, Gregg and William Pooch, all at home; his mother, Amelia Pooch; four sisters, Mrs. Milton (Mabel) Hoehne of Lamberton, Mrs. Donald (Alice) Krinke of Mankato, Mrs. Lloyd (Gladys) Leopold of Bingham Lake and Mrs. Floyd (Jean) Halter of Redwood Falls; three brothers, Larry and George Pooch, both of Lamberton, and Delmar Pooch of Farwell.

    He was preceded in death by his father in January 1947.1

He grew up in rural Lamberton and attended country school and later Lamberton High School for a couple of years. George farmed most all of his life on the family "Century" farm near Lamberton. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. After his discharge he returned to Lamberton. George married Shirley Schnobrich on September 29, 1949. The couple lived and farmed in rural Lamberton for many years. Shirley preceded him in death in December of 2007. George was a member of the Lamberton American Legion and the Church of Christ in Lamberton. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. He also enjoyed raising vegetables and sharing them with people at the assisted living center in Lamberton. Survivors include his son, Brian Pooch of rural Lamberton, three granddaughters, Hailey, Amanda and Mallory, two great grandchildren, Cadyn and Logan, sister, Jean Halter of Redwood Falls, sisters-in-law, Mildred Pooch and Evelyn Pooch of the metropolitan area. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Shirley, brothers, Delmer, Larry & Les, sisters, Mabel, Gladys and Alice.1
