  • ObituaryText: Willie C. Karow, son of Julius and Mary Karow, was born March 15, 1894 in Brown County Minnesota and passed away at the Basinger hospital in Mountain Lake, Minnesota, late on the evening of December 10, 1949 at the age of 55 years, eight months and 25 days. His entire life was spent in this part of Minnesota. He was born on a farm home northwest of Springfield, and then moved, with his parents, to the Sanborn community.
On October 5, 1920, he was married to Clara Pankonin and they established their home on what is now the LuVerne Pankonin farm. One daughter was born to this union. The mother and wife passed away in 1923 leaving the infant daughter and father. She was reared by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Gustave Pankonin. After the death of his wife, Mr. Karow's parents lived with him on the various farms on which he lived.
For some time it has been apparent that Mr. Karow's health was not good and finally four months ago, he submitted to surgery at the Colonial Hospital in Rochester. He was brought back to the Basinger Hospital at Mt. Lake where he received care for a time and then came home. On November 29 he was again taken to the hospital. However, he had never fully recovered from the operation and each day became weaker and passed away last Saturday evening.
Mr. Karow was intensly loyal to his church and his God. He came from pioneer stock who became charter members of the Evangelical United Brethren church as the missionary preachers came to them in their homes on the frontier. He gave generously of his time and means to the support of the Kingdom of God, serving in many ways. He was a member of the Quarterly Conference of the Red Rock Church for many years and faithfully carried out the tasks given him. One of his great interests was the new Red Rock church of which building committee he was a member. He was known far and wide for his Christian character. His living faith held him in good stead during the last trying days of suffering and discouragement.
He was tenderly cared for by his children. Mr. and Mrs. Rollin Johnson during his last days. He will be greatly missed by his loved ones and friends.
He leaves to mourn his passing his daughter Doris (Mrs Rollin Johnson) of Jeffers; four sisters and a brother, Bertha (Mrs. Paul Martins) of Sanborn, Henry Karow of Sanborn, Elsie (Mrs. Rudolph Martins) of Manti-Utah; Amanda (Mrs. Arthur Pankonin( of Sanborn; Esther (Mrs Willie Hein) of Morris, Minn; four grandchildren, Ronnie, Dale, Alan and June Johnson of Jeffers; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon, December 14 at two o'clock from the Red Rock Evangelical Church with the Rev. Herbert Cook officiating. The casketbearers were Gerald Karow, Ray Pankonin, Marvin Martins, Henry Martins, Andrew Middleton and Gilbert Hein. He was laid to rest beside his wife in the Red Rock Cemetery.4
  • Burial*: He was buried on 14 December 1949 at Germantown Twp, Cottonwood County, MN, USAG.2,3
